The verdict in the Kazova Tekstil case has been announced. The Istanbul 13th Heavy Penal Court sentenced former Sarıyer Mayor Şükrü Genç to 7 years and 6 months in prison on charges of “financing terrorism.” In the same case, Kalender Özdemir and İsmail Erdem were sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison, while some defendants were acquitted. The court decided to release Erdem and Özdemir. Their lawyers requested their release, stating that Şükrü Genç, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, and colon cancer, was not fit for prison conditions due to his health. The case was based on allegations that the organization was financed through Kazova Tekstil.
