Saniye Nazik Işık, a former president of the İzmir City Council, was detained as part of the “Ailem Güvende” operation. Following the detention of Işık, a founding member of the Women’s Solidarity Foundation, a member of the Kaos GL Association Audit Board and founding chair of the Equal Life Association, the Union of Aegean City Councils issued a statement. The union argued that the operations targeted organized rights advocacy and called for the release of Işık and other rights defenders.
