The CHP’s November Press Freedom Report revealed that journalists are facing both judicial pressure and economic sanctions. According to the report, at least 68 journalists appeared in court in November due to their news reports or social media posts. Imprisoned journalist Fatih Altaylı was sentenced to 4 years and 2 months in prison on charges of “physical assault against the President.” In the same month, 14 journalists were fired from Sözcü TV; RTÜK imposed administrative fines on five media outlets. Şaban Sevinç, Yavuz Oğhan, Soner Yalçın, Ruşen Çakır, and Batuhan Çolak were taken in for questioning following dawn raids on their homes as part of an Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality investigation. Investigations were launched against BirGün and T24 employees; journalists Kayhan Ayhan, Rojda Altıntaş, and Alican Uludağ were summoned for questioning. Cases were also opened against JinNews News Director Öznur Değer and former Editor-in-Chief of Yeni Yaşam Osman Akın. The report emphasized that three access restrictions imposed on the official accounts of presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu have exacerbated the censorship environment in the media.
