The third hearing of the retrial of writer and Xwebûn newspaper columnist Mehmet Şahin on charges of “illegal organization membership” was held at Diyarbakır 5th Assize Court. The court canceled the hearing of the secret witness and sent the case to the prosecutor’s office to prepare a final opinion on the merits. The next hearing is scheduled for September 23. Şahin is on trial for his journalism and trade union activities; his case was previously overturned by the Court of Appeal.
