Eğitim-Sen Dersim Branch reacted against the administrative investigation initiated by Munzur University against History Department faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yalçın Çakmak.
“These attacks target not only an academic, but also Dersim’s social values and freedom of belief,” the statement read.
It was stated that Çakmak’s social media post about the “Assembly of Kırklar”, which takes place in Alevi belief, was distorted as “insulting the prophet”.
Emphasizing that the investigation is an attempt to silence dissident academics, Eğitim-Sen said, “We will not give up the struggle for secular, scientific and democratic education.”
