The Interior Ministry suspended AKP acting mayor Aydın Demirdirek in the Yahşihan district of Kırıkkale following his arrest. Kırıkkale 2nd Criminal Judgeship of Peace arrested Demirdirek on 9 October on charges of “bribery,” “bid rigging” and “aiding a criminal organization.” The ministry based the suspension on Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law. In operations conducted in two provinces as part of the corruption investigation into the municipality, 10 people including Demirdirek were detained, five were arrested and four were released under judicial control. In the first operation in the investigation on 24 September, 35 people including former mayors Ahmet Sungur and Osman Türkyılmaz were detained, 16 were arrested and four were placed under house arrest.
