Bakırköy 1st Criminal Judgeship of Peace blocked access to three bianet reports concerning parliamentary questions by Workers’ Party of Türkiye (TİP) Istanbul MP Ahmet Şık about the crisis in investment funds and allegations about Justice Minister Akın Gürlek. The Cyber Security Presidency requested that reports published on 22, 23 and 29 September be removed within four hours under Article 8/A of Law No. 5651. The institution did not send bianet the reasoned decision for the access block. The first two reports covered questions Şık submitted to Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek. Şık asked whether allegations had been investigated that Justice Minister Akın Gürlek, presidential adviser Hasan Doğan, BTK member Batuhan Mumcu and AKP MP Mehmet Ali Çelebi had invested directly or through relatives during the period before Tera Portföy’s TLY fund was opened to the public. He also asked whether Mehmet Türkoğlu, Osman Dündar Çiftçi and Hayrettin Koç had carried out million-lira transactions in the funds and made large withdrawals before the crisis. The third report concerned Şık’s allegations that Gürlek and his wife rented an apartment in Süzer Plaza for 750,000 lira a month, and a statement by Gürlek’s lawyer denying the allegations and announcing a criminal complaint against Şık. The reports that conveyed these questions to the public were blocked while the ministers had not responded to the parliamentary questions.
