Hacı Geciken, who was held for eight years at Kırşehir S-Type Closed Prison and released on 18 June 2026 after his release had been postponed four times, was detained again at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport on the night of 9 October. Geciken’s family said he had boarded a plane to travel to Sulaymaniyah but was removed from the aircraft as it was beginning to move, and that they had been unable to obtain information about him. The family said police units provided them with no information and that the investigation file had been placed under a confidentiality order and restrictions had been imposed on lawyer access. Geciken had visited Diyarbakır, Istanbul, Hakkâri, Van and Şırnak with his family after his release. His family criticized his renewed detention, emphasizing that former prisoners’ freedom of travel was being restricted at a time when a peace process was being discussed, and called for Geciken’s immediate release.
