The Şırnak 2nd Heavy Penal Court ruled on February 18, 2026, in the case concerning the murder of DEM Party leader Ahmet Gün on December 11, 2023, in the town of Şenoba, Uludere. The court sentenced village guard Sıddık Babat to life imprisonment for the intentional killing of Ahmet Gün; it reduced the sentence to 15 years by applying “unjust provocation” and “good behavior” reductions. Babat was also sentenced to 5 years in prison for the crime of wounding Abdürrahim Gün, and the court decided to continue his detention. The court acquitted Enver Babat, Ebubekir Babat, and Ömer Yarar. Lawyers for the Gün family and DEM Party Deputy Newroz Uysal Aslan reacted to the decision.
