Between January 8 and 27, 2026, 37 children were detained in Şırnak due to protests related to Rojava. Twelve of them were arrested and sent to the Hatay Children and Youth Prison. DEM Party MP Newroz Uysal Aslan submitted a petition to the Turkish Grand National Assembly Human Rights Inquiry Commission on February 19, 2026, alleging that the children were subjected to torture, strip searches, haircuts, and beatings during their detention and prison stay. The petition stated that the children were threatened, forced to sign documents, and denied basic necessities in prison; it demanded that administrative and judicial proceedings be initiated against those responsible.
