No investigation permit was issued for the police in Saraçhane

The Istanbul Regional Administrative Court upheld the Istanbul Governorate’s decision not to grant permission to investigate lawyer Bilge Ocakcıoğlu’s claim that she was beaten by police during the March 23 protest in Saraçhane. The governorate’s investigation found that “the images were of low resolution and the police officers’ helmet numbers could not be identified,” and therefore no perpetrators were identified. The court stated that there was insufficient concrete evidence for a criminal investigation. Ocakcıoğlu’s lawyers appealed the decision to the Constitutional Court, arguing that the “prohibition of torture and ill-treatment” and the “right to an effective investigation” had been violated.
