FreeWebTurkey published its 2025 Internet Censorship Report on December 29. According to the report, 1,306 pieces of content and 3,330 URLs were blocked in Turkey in the first seven months of the year by decisions made by courts and administrative bodies. Censorship decisions mainly targeted journalistic activities, news sites, and social media posts. The report noted that the most frequently cited legal basis among the 105 access restriction decisions examined was Article 8/A of Law No. 5651. It was recorded that 496 pieces of content were blocked on the grounds of “protecting national security and public order,” accounting for 38% of all decisions. The report emphasized that access restrictions increased in parallel with political developments, with Kurdish media, independent press, and journalists’ social media accounts being particularly targeted.
