Jailed Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel criticized detention orders issued for his lawyers, Ezgi Tezcan Yaşar and Umut Yaşar, as well as searches and seizures carried out at their offices. Günel said files relating to his own case were also seized during the searches on 7 August and argued that his right to defense was violated. Citing a statement by the Aydın Bar Association that no request was made to the association’s presidency to appoint a representative for the searches, Günel called for the lawfulness of the procedures to be examined and urged the Union of Turkish Bar Associations and the relevant bar associations to follow the process.
