Seventeen people detained in the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office investigation into the Kuşadası Municipality over alleged “bribery” and “extortion by a public official” were referred to court. A criminal judgeship of peace remanded 14 people in custody, including Private Secretary Şebnem Kars Şenol, CHP council member Ali Kotan, municipal employees, businesspeople and technical staff. Macit Günel was placed under house arrest and banned from leaving the country, while İsmail Yurtseven and Şefik Çalık were placed under judicial control requiring them to report regularly and barring them from leaving the country. Authorities continued to search for four people as part of the investigation.
