The verdict regarding human rights defender Deniz Gümüşel, who was tried for participating in a protest against tree cutting in Akbelen Forest on July 29, 2023, was announced on January 15. The Milas 6th Criminal Court sentenced Gümüşel to five months in prison for “resisting to prevent the performance of duty.” The court decided to postpone the announcement of the verdict. Gümüşel and her lawyers announced that they would appeal the decision.
