Ahmet Saymadi, who was arrested within the scope of the operation against the Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK) on February 18, was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison for “illegal organization membership” and released with a ban on leaving the country.
Saymadi, who has been held in Silivri Prison for four months, and his lawyers were present at the hearing held at Istanbul 26th High Criminal Court in Çağlayan. Many politicians and lawyers followed the hearing.
Saymadi stated in his defense that he is a member of the Socialist Refoundation Party (SYKP), emphasizing that his relationship with the HDK is within the framework of the party’s work and demanded his acquittal. His lawyers, on the other hand, stated that the prosecution’s evidence was not included in the file and that there was no official document stating that the HDK was a terrorist organization.
The court sentenced Saymadi to 6 years and 3 months in prison and ruled for his release
