The Artvin Criminal Court of First Instance rejected the appeal against the detention of Sendika.Org worker Ozan Cırık. The court’s decision claimed that there was “strong suspicion of guilt” and “concrete evidence” of “membership in an armed terrorist organization” against Cırık.
Cırık was detained on June 13 as part of an Artvin-based investigation and was arrested by the court. The evidence against Cırık includes payments received for technical support to news websites as part of his journalistic activities, news royalties and phone calls.
Cırık and other journalists had stated that these payments were in return for their professional activities and did not constitute a criminal offense. However, the court considered these professional activities as strong criminal suspicion.
