According to Haaretz, a woman with dual Turkish-Israeli citizenship was briefly detained in Turkey last week. Authorities stated that the woman was questioned on the grounds that she had performed compulsory military service in the Israeli Defense Forces approximately six years ago. It was reported that Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar intervened and diplomatic contact was established through the US Embassy. The woman was released but was informed that she could be summoned to court in the future. The report noted that following the Gaza war, there has been an increase in applications filed in different countries against Israeli soldiers under the principle of universal jurisdiction, and that there are 37 indictments filed against Israeli officials in Turkey.
