DEM Party Mardin Deputy Beritan Güneş raised the issue of human rights violations against children who were detained and arrested during protests following attacks on Rojava in January 2026 in a speech she made in the Turkish Grand National Assembly on February 27. Güneş said that some children were subjected to strip searches, physical violence, and pressure during their detention and prison processes. She noted that nine children were detained in Şırnak and some children were transferred to Hatay. Güneş called on the Ministries of Interior and Justice to investigate the allegations and take action against those responsible. Güneş demanded the release of the detained children and for Parliament to take action.
