The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office filed a lawsuit against lawyer Ömer Kavili on charges of “insulting a public official in connection with his duties” against Arif Çetin. The prosecution made Kavili’s reposting of a May 10, 2021 news article on his social media account the subject of the charges and sought a prison sentence of up to two years and four months. At the first hearing on February 25 at the Ankara 61st Criminal Court of First Instance, the court ruled that Arif Çetin should participate in the trial. The judge stated that there were doubts about Kavili’s criminal responsibility and ordered a mental health report from a fully equipped state hospital. The court rejected the request to dismiss the judge and postponed the hearing until July 1.
