Human rights defenders staged protests in Izmir, Istanbul, and Ankara on February 28 to draw attention to the situation of sick prisoners. In Izmir, members of the Human Rights Association (İHD) held a press conference in Konak, stating that the health conditions of Esmer Avaz and Mehmet Emin Çam had deteriorated and demanding a halt to their executions. In Istanbul, the İHD Prisons Commission demanded the release of 70-year-old Mehmet Edip Taşar, who is being held at Marmara No. 5 L-Type Prison. In Ankara, the Freedom for Sick Prisoners Initiative brought up the health condition of Tayfun Kahraman, who is in Silivri Marmara Prison, and demanded that the Constitutional Court’s ruling on the violation be implemented.
