The 30-page reports stated that the lawsuits to cancel the conventions aimed to nullify the will of the voters through the judiciary, while the investigations into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality were political rather than legal in nature. The report emphasized that the high prison sentences sought for Ekrem İmamoğlu were “disproportionate,” that detentions and arrests were applied excessively, and that detention had effectively been turned into a preemptive punishment. The CHP warned that these processes could cause lasting damage to the principle of a democratic state governed by the rule of law.
