Young people in the Yafes neighborhood of Cizre district in Şırnak protested on January 8 against the attacks on the Sheikh Maksud and Eşrefiye neighborhoods in Aleppo, where Kurds live in large numbers, and the Beni Zed neighborhood, where Syriacs live. Police intervened against the crowd, who wanted to march with a banner reading “Rojava is conscience, freedom, resistance, it cannot be surrendered.” During the intervention, at least three young people were beaten and detained. Police prevented press workers from filming, targeted journalists, and threatened them. Despite the obstruction, the crowd continued their march through the streets chanting slogans.
