President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has filed a 500,000 lira lawsuit for moral damages against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel. The lawsuit was filed due to Özel’s statements about Erdoğan during a speech he gave at a rally held in Beykoz, Istanbul, on January 7. President Erdoğan’s lawyer, Hüseyin Aydın, announced that the lawsuit was filed at the Ankara Civil Court of First Instance and that a criminal complaint was also filed with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on charges of “insulting the president.” It was reported that the legal process is continuing in both civil and criminal courts.
