Hüseyin Ersöz, the lawyer of arrested Adana Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar, announced that the request for release they submitted on July 31 was rejected by the court without being examined. Ersöz stated that their petition, which was not sent to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace, was accepted as an “objection” by the prosecutor’s office and forwarded to the same court, and finally the Istanbul 49th Criminal Court of First Instance decided to “reject the objection”. The lawyer stated that in this process, there was no decision on the continuation of Karalar’s detention, which is a violation of the right to freedom and a situation that requires the prosecutor’s office to issue an ex officio release decision.
