The Istanbul Regional Administrative Court upheld DİSK’s application and annulled the decision of the Istanbul Governorate to prevent the celebrations in Taksim Square on May Day 2024. The decision has become final and the way of appeal is closed. Citing the historical and symbolic importance of Taksim for May Day, the court emphasized that the right of workers to gather in this area cannot be arbitrarily prevented by the administration. DİSK finds the decision in line with precedent set by the ECtHR and the Constitutional Court and calls on the government to abide by the law.
