The Izmir office of Evrensel newspaper was attacked with an armed attack at 1.30 am, the attacker was detained. The attack took place while the office was empty and 7 bullets hit the newspaper’s signboard. In the statement of the newspaper, it was stated that the attack was a clear intimidation against freedom of the press and the people’s right to receive news and said, “We will win united against these attacks against all of us.” Press organizations also condemned the attack. TGS emphasized that the bullets were fired to intimidate journalists; RSF Turkey Representative Erol Önderoğlu said that the intention behind the incident should be revealed. “The dark forces behind the attack must be exposed,” the DFG said.
