The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) notified Halk TV of a 10-day blackout penalty. The penalty will begin at 24:00 on Tuesday, July 8 and the channel will not be able to broadcast for 10 days from this date.
With a decision taken on June 26, 2025, RTÜK deemed Tolga Yarman’s statements “Turkey is not becoming more religious, it is becoming more sectarian” and “We have been instigated against Iran since the naming of the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge” in the program “Sansürsüz with Sinem Fıstıkoğlu” broadcast on Halk TV as “inciting hatred and hostility against the public”.
The decision was taken under Article 8 of Law 6112 and became a critical threshold for the channel’s license. In the event of another fine under the same article, Halk TV’s broadcasting license could be revoked.
Halk TV management announced that they will take the fine to the judiciary; however, it was stated that the fine will be applied while the lawsuit process continues.
