The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) decided to impose administrative fines on Sözcü TV and TELE1 at the upper limit at its meeting held on July 3, 2025.
RTÜK found Dr. Murat Kubilay’s statements such as “Turkey is not a Muslim country” and “Islam is politicized” in the “Para Politika” program broadcast on Sözcü TV to be divisive and against national and spiritual values. RTÜK imposed both a fine and a program suspension sanction on the channel based on Article 8 of Law No. 6112.
In the program “4 Questions 4 Answers” broadcast on TELE1, the subtitles of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel’s statement “Junta President” against President Erdoğan were criticized. RTÜK concluded that this broadcast also violated Article 8 of the same law, which states that the broadcast “cannot exceed the limits of criticism and cannot contain derogatory expressions” and imposed an administrative fine on TELE1.
