The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) imposed a 10-day blackout on Halk TV. Halk TV ironically protested this decision and broadcast a penguin documentary with the title “RTÜK’s dream Halk TV” during the main news bulletin. Presenter Ece Üner, after describing the physical characteristics of penguins, said, “I think they wouldn’t like penguins so much if they knew they stood upright,” implying that the punishment was given against the oppositional stance.
