Karar reporter Feyza Nur Çalıkoğlu is on trial on charges of “spreading misleading information to the public” for reporting on allegations of ill-treatment in removal centers. Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment for the news report published on November 7, 2024 and demanded a prison sentence of 1 to 3 years. Çalıkoğlu said that the news report was based on lawyer opinions and human rights reports, and that direct testimony could not be taken due to the closed nature of the center. The second hearing of the trial will be held on February 10, 2026.
