IFOD: Internet censorship mechanisms like clockwork

Freedom of Expression Association (IFOD) launched opinions and suggestions on the UN Universal Periodic Review on Turkey. The report stated that internet censorship mechanisms are ongoing with increasing strength, with suggestions of the association summarised in five groups:

1- Stopping the prevention of Internet access on international platforms like Wikipedia;

2- Making Internet legislations compatible with international and European standards, including precedents of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on freedom of expression;

3- Only courts and judges to be authorized on the Internet legislation and access bans instead of various administrative institutions;

4- Restricting the scope of access bans and directing them on the URLs of specific content, thus preventing the banning of access to the entire website; simultaneously making such decisions for a limited amount of time instead of being indefinite;

5- Revocation of articles in the Law No. 23.5651 on access bans in accordance with the right to information and freedom of expression.
