Mehmet Emin Korkmaz, who posted about Zeynep Güneş, the mayor of Mihalgazi district in Eskişehir, on social media, was taken into custody. Korkmaz was detained as part of an investigation launched by the Eskişehir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on charges of “inciting the public to hatred and hostility” due to the statements he used when sharing Güneş’s photo. Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç stated that the post was disruptive to public peace and discriminatory in nature. The İYİ Party initiated disciplinary proceedings against Korkmaz with a request for his expulsion.
