On February 18, 2026, tensions arose in Batman over a banner reading “Welcome, blessed month of Ramadan” hung on an association building on Turgut Özal Boulevard. Police and municipal law enforcement teams demanded the banner be removed, stating it violated permit and size regulations. When the banner was not removed, the teams intervened; riot police dispersed the crowd during the ensuing scuffle. After the incident, they detained a large number of people and launched an investigation.
