This year’s Ayşenur Zarakolu Freedom of Expression Awards were announced. The awards will be handed with a ceremony to be organized tonight at the Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul building at 19:00.
The names announced by IHD Istanbul Award Committee for the awards are as following:
* Ayşe Çelik (Teacher Ayşe): On behalf of all those who say, “Do not let children die, do not let mothers cry,”
* Selahattin Demirtaş: On behalf of all arrested MPs and elected politicians,
* Onur Hamzaoğlu: On behalf of medical doctors arrested and oppressed due to calling for peace,
* Murat Sabuncu: On behalf of journalists under pressure,
* Sezin Uçar: On behalf of arrested lawyers,
* Boğaziçi University students: On behalf of all arrested students,
* Özgürlükçü Demokrasi Newspaper: On behalf of all shutdown newspapers and publications,
* Hasan Ceylan: On behalf of all arrested and oppressed human rights advocates.
