In the case over allegations of irregularities at the CHP’s 38th Ordinary Congress, the prosecutor sought the punishment of nine defendants, including Ekrem İmamoğlu and CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik. In the case concerning the congress at which Özgür Özel was elected chair, the prosecutor relied on the offense of “fraud in internal party elections and voting” under Article 112 of the Political Parties Law. In addition to İmamoğlu and Çelik, punishment was sought for CHP Party Assembly member Baki Aydöner, Erkan Aydın, Mehmet Kılınçarslan, Metin Gülerkaya, Nihat Yeşiltaş, Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat and Serhat Can Eş. The prosecutor sought the acquittal of İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay, who joined the AKP, as well as Hüseyin Yaşar and Özgen Nama. The court had not yet issued a verdict after the prosecutor presented the opinion on the merits.
