The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment against Tolga Akış, founder and manager of the music group Manifest, on a charge of “obscenity.” Prosecutors sought a prison sentence of between six months and three years. Akış had previously been arrested on charges of “obscenity,” “drug use” and “laundering criminal proceeds,” and was described as responsible for organizing the group’s concerts, stage shows and financial affairs. The indictment alleged that the dances, clothing and stage images at concerts were contrary to society’s moral values. Prosecutors argued that Akış had responsibility for determining the content of the performances and publishing their images and requested that he be punished for obscenity.
