Mining drilling carried out by Taşzemin Madencilik, a Taşyapı Group company, near Perşembe Plateau in Ordu’s Aybastı district continued under gendarmerie protection despite an Ordu Administrative Court decision to stay the execution. Gendarmerie set up checkpoints on roads leading to the drilling area. Plateau residents inspected the area and protested drilling machines operating near their homes. Resident Musa Duman said about five drilling machines were operating in the area, that Çoban Creek was experiencing water shortages and that water in the Deroba area had been polluted. He said he had been fined 180,000 TL for opposing mining activities and using a motorcycle on the plateau. Duman accused public institutions of acting in the company’s interests and called for implementation of the court’s stay-of-execution decision.
