The Ankara Democratic Institutions Platform protested the fifth postponement of the release of Zeliha Ustabaş, who was held at Sincan Women’s Closed Prison. In the protest, which entered its fourth week, platform members held a banner and chanted slogans against the obstruction of political prisoners’ releases. Speaking on behalf of the platform, Nebahat Çalpan said Ustabaş’s release, which had been postponed four times since 18 July 2024, was postponed for another nine months by the Administration and Observation Board. Çalpan argued that the board’s decisions lacked concrete, objective and reviewable grounds and said practices that effectively extended prison terms were unlawful. She called on the Justice Ministry to effectively review prison administrations’ decisions and demanded an end to Administration and Observation Boards acting like a second court.
