Twenty-two people were detained in simultaneous operations in 12 provinces as part of the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office investigation into the Süleymancılar community, described as the “Alihan Kuriş criminal organization for profit.” Prosecutors issued detention orders for 38 people on charges of “establishing and leading a criminal organization,” “membership in an organization,” “laundering criminal proceeds,” “fraud with the intent to cause losses to public institutions” and “violating the Tax Procedure Law.” Police searched 28 homes and 16 workplaces. Fourteen suspects were found to be abroad, while efforts continued to apprehend two people. In the first operation in the investigation on 13 August, 32 people, including community leader Alihan Kuriş, had been arrested. Around 200 kilograms of gold bullion worth about 1.34 billion TL was found at an address searched for fugitive Hilmi Tuna Kuriş, while Alihan Kuriş argued that the gold consisted of wedding gifts. Prosecutors alleged that money movements exceeding 100 billion TL had taken place through people and companies linked to the community. In previous operations, trustees had been appointed to 32 companies, including Ayakkabı Dünyası, Hisar Hospitals, Armine Giyim and ŞMS Kopuz Gıda, followed by 11 more companies and three associations.
