The Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment against journalist Fatih Ergin over a social media post connected to the investigation into the death in prison of former MİT officer Kaşif Kozinoğlu. Prosecutors sought a prison sentence of between one year and six months and four years and six months on a charge of “publicly disseminating misleading information.” Ergin, an editor at Nefes newspaper, wrote in a post following the discovery of former campus doctor Turgay Tamer dead at his home after being detained in the investigation that Tamer had previously worked at the Forensic Medicine Institute, and later corrected the information. Prosecutors treated the post as an offense under Articles 217/A and 218 of the Turkish Penal Code. Police detained Ergin at his home on 27 September. He was arrested on 28 September. The indictment sought a prison sentence over the post.
