A ban was imposed on 74-year-old writer and retired teacher Kemal Yalçın, who lives in Germany, preventing him from entering Türkiye. Yalçın, a German citizen, was denied entry at İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport on 9 December 2025 and sent back to Germany. He said he had traveled to Türkiye without problems for 30 years since 1995 and that he had not been informed of the reason for the ban. Through his lawyer, he filed a case before an administrative court on 2 January 2026 and applied to the Constitutional Court on 2 July, but neither application had been concluded. The Writers’ Union of Türkiye launched a signature campaign at the Denizli Book Fair under the slogan “Kemal Yalçın, come home.” The union called for the reason for the ban to be disclosed and for the restriction to be lifted. Yalçın sought refuge in Germany in 1982 following the 12 September coup and was able to re-enter Türkiye in 1995. He wrote documentary novels and research works on Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians, including “Emanet Çeyiz,” and his works were translated into 16 languages and received various awards. Yalçın argued that the entry ban against him was political.
