The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an ex officio investigation against photographer Bennu Gerede on an “obscenity” charge over remarks she made on a YouTube program. The investigation was prompted by Gerede’s description of a necklace she wore on the program as a “portable vibrator.” Prosecutors conducted the investigation under Article 226 of the Turkish Penal Code.
