The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office sought a prison sentence of up to four years and six months in an indictment against Nasuh Mahruki over a social media post about the 15 July coup attempt. Prosecutors investigated Mahruki on a charge of “inciting the public to hatred and hostility or degrading the public.” In his 15 July post, Mahruki claimed that the coup attempt had been detected in advance but was deliberately not prevented in order to bring about a regime change. Mahruki had previously been tried over a social media post on a charge of “publicly disseminating misleading information” and was sentenced to 11 months and 20 days in prison.
