The Hakkari 1st Heavy Penal Court held the second hearing of the retrial of Mehmet Sıddık Akış, co-mayor of Hakkari Municipality, who was replaced by a trustee on February 18, 2026, and ruled that he should remain in custody. Following the Van Regional Court of Appeals’ decision to overturn the ruling, Akış participated in the hearing via SEGBIS from the Van High Security Prison. Akış denied the charge of “being an organization leader” and argued that the arrest was intended to appoint an administrator. The court postponed the hearing until April 29, 2026.
