Azadiya Welat Newspaper’s Managing Editor Aydın Atar was sentenced to 6 years and four months of imprisonment due to ‘illegal organization propaganda.’ Atar was on trial at Diyarbakır 7th High Criminal Court due to nine articles published on the newspaper in 2012 and 2013.
The court had decided for the indictments in three different lawsuits filed against Atar on different dates at different courts with the allegation of ‘illegal organization propaganda’ to be merged in one case file. Therefore, the 10-year 3-month imprisonment sentence previously issued against Atar in 2013 had been reversed by the Court of Appeals and the merged file was sent to the local court.
