On September 22, journalism and freedom of expression trials will continue. The first hearings of Swedish journalist Joakim Medin and journalist-human rights defender Nurcan Kaya will be held this week. The case of unsolved murders in Ankara, the case against BirGün executives in Istanbul, Nurcan Kaya’s “membership in an illegal organization” and “financing of terrorism” case, Mehmet Şahin’s case that was overturned at the appeal court, the case of former Zaman newspaper executives and the case of those detained in the Suruç Massacre are among the prominent hearings of this week. The trials of lawyer Nazan Betül Vangölü Kozağaçlı, TELE1 Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardağ, former Editor-in-Chief of Cumhuriyet newspaper Can Dündar and arrested CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu will also be held this week.
