Child Rights Review Report

In the report prepared by the Human Rights Association within the scope of the EU-funded project, the Human Rights Action Plan and Judicial Reform Strategies were evaluated for their shortcomings in terms of children’s rights.

In the report, it is stated that the arrangements made in the juvenile justice system are insufficient to meet the principle of the best interest of the child. Although positive steps have been taken in the processes of child delivery and personal relationship, it was emphasized that mechanisms to ensure that children are seen as subjects of rights have not been established.

It was stated that the imprisonment of children in penal execution processes is still widespread, and it is a serious violation of rights for children in the 0-6 age group to be imprisoned with their mothers. The increase in the number of child prisoners was found to be in violation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

İHD emphasized that child-friendly justice policies should be strengthened, regulations should be aligned with the principle of the best interest of the child and a rights-based approach should be adopted in practice.

The report was prepared with the contributions of Fisa Child Rights Center, IHD Central Child Commission, AYHED, bar associations, CISST, Justice for Children Association and other institutions.
