Mezopotamya Agency reporter Ceylan Şahinli was summoned to testify for her speech she made for journalists Cihan Bilgin and Nazım Daştan, who were murdered on December 23, 2024 at the Kobanê-Pirsûs border. Şahinli testified at Urfa Security Branch Directorate as part of the investigation launched by Suruç Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on the grounds of “opposing the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations”.
The journalist stated that he was following news in the region, while his lawyers reminded him of his right to freedom of expression and assembly. Investigations were also launched against DBP member Mehmet Şirin Gürbüz and DEM Party executive Bekir Benek for the same statement.
