The investigation conducted was completed by Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on Rana Batı and her friend Zeynep K, who quarreled with police officers due to not wearing masks in Kadıköy on August 19, 2020 and were detained with a harsh intervention. The indictment prepared against the two women claim imprisonment sentences for up to 9 years and 4 months against Batı due to “resisting to prevent duty” and “insulting a public officer” and for up to 4 years and one month against Zeynep K due to “insulting a public officer.” However, a verdict of non-prosecution was issued in the investigation conducted against the police officers on the same incident due to “misuse of duty,” “exceeding the limit on the authority to use brute force,” “sexual attack” and “sexual harassment.” The reason for the decree claimed that the intervention of the police officers against Batı remained within legal boundaries.
